01

The challenge

The project involved civil works within the public domain, requiring careful coordination between the proposed development, existing road infrastructure and Council requirements.

  • Existing road levels and services, restricted construction areas, pedestrian and vehicle access requirements, stormwater drainage, and the need to maintain safe access throughout construction.
  • Ensuring the proposed footpaths, kerbs, roadworks, drainage and public domain upgrades integrated seamlessly with existing infrastructure while achieving the required levels and grades.
  • Addressing Council standards, accessibility requirements, stormwater management, service coordination and constructability while minimising disruption to the surrounding public environment.

02

Our solution

Our team developed a coordinated civil and public domain design that integrated the proposed works with the existing road and infrastructure network, treating the public domain as an extension of the development rather than an isolated component.

  • Road and pavement design to suit the proposed traffic and site conditions.
  • Kerb and gutter design integrated with existing road infrastructure.
  • Footpath and pedestrian area design with appropriate grades, levels and accessibility considerations.
  • Site grading and level coordination to provide smooth transitions between the development and existing public domain.
  • Stormwater drainage design to manage runoff and connect appropriately to the existing drainage network.
  • Vehicle access and driveway design to provide safe and functional access to the development.
  • Service coordination to identify conflicts and minimise impacts on existing underground and above-ground infrastructure.
  • Civil engineering documentation and construction details suitable for authority review and construction.
  • Coordination with Council and other stakeholders to address approval requirements and resolve design issues efficiently.

03

The outcome

The project delivered a fully coordinated public domain civil design that improved the connection between the development and surrounding infrastructure while meeting relevant authority requirements.

  • Functional and compliant road, kerb and footpath infrastructure.
  • Improved pedestrian and vehicle connectivity.
  • Appropriate accessibility and pedestrian movement considerations.
  • Effective integration with the existing stormwater drainage network.
  • Coordinated site levels and smooth transitions to the existing public domain.
  • Reduced risk of clashes between civil works and existing services.
  • A practical and construction-ready civil design.
  • A solution aligned with Council requirements and the project's programme and budget.

The result was a safe, functional and well-integrated public domain solution that supported the development while improving the interface between the private site and surrounding public infrastructure.
